Is it necessary to walk the talk?

The Question:
It has been a long time since I have added my last post to this blog. Well, to my readers I can say that I was on a small mission, to verify one principle or to answer one question to myself before I can tell you guys about it. It was a fairly simple question.

The question was ‘Is it really necessary to follow each and every word we ever say, even when we have to face hardship while fulfilling the requirements of the task or the small commitment we had made to someone or to self? Is it really necessary to have our actions and words to be congruent, for each and every aspect of our personality?

Or it is okay, to sometimes go easy on yourself and not do the thing we said we would do?’
The thing we said we would do might be small and also insignificant, something like taking out garbage, or putting the pillows to their proper place on the sofa or cleaning your room or some important thing like buying grocery, or mending the broken tap or paying the bill before deadline, or studying before watching the NBA or NFL play-offs or the football or cricket game. But not doing these small things, or in our context not being true to our words may have a bit deeper consequences.

From my experiment I have concluded that it is very necessary to follow the words you speak. To follow each and every word you speak. Promises made to others and also to you. I have found that doing otherwise can lead to some attitudes that are deterrent to progress of any individual. I came across attitude of escapism, laziness, depression and even obesity as a result of not following the simple words we speak to others, but more importantly to ourselves. Of course, these attitudes didn't come to surface immediately but were revealed after continuous repetition of this habit.

Why to follow?
Consider two straight lines emerging from a same point. As we move away from the point, the gap between the two lines starts increasing. Simple geometry, isn't it? Similarly, there are two dimensions to our being, one is called knowledge and other is called as action. And when we fail to follow our own words, we fail to recognize our own knowledge. And slowly the gap between these two dimensions starts increasing and we start to move away from our blissful self into the abyss of all the negativity and all those bad habits which keep on stressing us.

Many mythological and religious stories have had stories about gods and goddesses who held to their words even when some of the situation arising by following their words would only result in pain and separation. In Shivpurana, a text of Hindu mythology, God Shankara couldn't fulfill his promise he had given to his wife Goddess Parvati and as per her words she forgot all the memories she had about Shiva, in spite of the fact that their separation would be painful and may even disrupt the life on earth. Jesus promised about his resurrection and he did return to his followers. As I had always said, they are not just stories or legends who may have or did wander on this earth; it is a way of telling us the virtues we need to lead our life with.

Attitudes do not care where you shape them, but once shaped them become part of life. So it does not matter if you are sneaking and eating that pie you said you won't it or not doing the job you promised to in the spur of the moment. Even if no one else is watching you can be sure that your conscience is taking a note and implementing the same.

Need of Human Evolution
Human is basically animal by nature and his attitude resembles the natural phenomenon. Like all other animals we have a tendency to escape from the hardships of life or things which seems to be dangerous for us. Dangerous means things that not only threaten our lives but also are painful to endeavour on physical or emotional level. This is the reason why we are attracted to do things which fall in our comfort zone, or things which are accomplished in a jiffy, things that give short term but quick pleasures. Human evolution is all about getting away from this animal instinct of laziness, attitude to escape difficult events, selfishness and many more.

The Affirmation:
So sometimes if you feel like you are in a tough situation and all the voices inside your head wants you to back down, just say out loud to yourself, It’s possible, I am going to make through this. I am not gonna back down from my words. I am gonna follow the words till very end, till they become a reality. I am not gonna be satisfied by the petty pleasures that life is gonna bring forth as an obstacle. I will work hard till I get what I wanna do. I am gonna win.’

So my friends don’t allow the small pleasures of life come in between the dreams of your life. To be a diamond, you have to sustain pressures like it does, and also to take the heat of the events and transform it into powerful radiance of your heart.

Is it necessary to do it?
Absolutely not! We cannot dictate your life. Here, we can only present you with a choice, whether to follow it or not is entirely up to you. Is it bad if we couldn't follow the advice given here? As I have always told, there is nothing good or bad in doing anything. It is just like the number zero on the scale. The zero acts as a benchmark. Below the benchmark, the things are negative, above they are positive. So does the things which seem bad, are below the benchmark of the principles, you were brought up with. But I can tell you this, if you do follow it, I can guarantee that you will definitely fulfill your dream and will be the happiest person you have ever known for the rest of your life. Plus you would also know, which things you should not commit to. So it’s kinda buy one and get one free offer. So guys live your words and fulfill your dreams.

But remember that.
