The peasant returned
after two weeks and handed over the diamond to the king. The king was ecstatic
looking at the diamond. The peasant had carved a beautiful rose on the diamond.
And when he looked closely he found that the stem of the rose was the same
scratch that was the result of his grief. He understood perfection lies in imperfection.
The story:
Once there was a very
famous king in northern-province of India. He was famous for his generosity and
forgiving nature. For his generosity, one peasant in his kingdom with a huge
diamond.
The diamond was so
beautiful that the king declared the diamond as his national symbol of
prosperity and the spirit of unity in his kingdom. However, nothing is permanent
in this world, so wasn't the beauty of the diamond. One day while appreciating
the beauty of the diamond, the king found a deep scratch on the diamond. A long
slender deep scratch which destroyed all the beauty of the diamond.
The king called for
his minister and asked him to send a proclamation. He said whoever will restore
this diamond to its original beauty will be awarded richly.
Many diamond cutters
came. All took a close look at the diamond but they all looked at the diamond
in contempt. Each of them said that the diamond was no longer worthy of being a
national symbol, its beauty cannot be restore.
When the hope of the
king was about to die a peasant came to the king. He asked king to allow him to
look at the diamond. The peasant analysed the diamond. He asked the king two
week time and guaranteed that the beauty of the diamond will be restored.
Let’s learn:
So what changed you may ask? The perception
changed.
Usually we are so
engrossed looking at the grief and pain we face in our lives that we forget the
opportunities they bring along with them. Opportunities to grow, not materially,
but internally. Robin Sharma in his book ‘The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari’ said, “Every
event has a purpose and every setback is its lesson. I have realized that
failure, whether of personal, professional or even spiritual kind, is essential
to personal expansion. It brings inner growth and a whole host of physic
rewards. Never regret you past rather embrace it as a ‘teacher’ that it is.” What changed? Perception did.
See yourself at the
end of the pack? Just turn around and you will the leader. Change your
perception.
See yourself as a fish
in the group? Challenge everyone to swim and not fly. Change your perception.
See life as a hard
place to live by which is full of pain and grief. Start seeing life as opportunity
and the things you attract will change. Change your perception.
Change your perception
about the thing you are facing. I guarantee your pain will become your reason
of happiness and your grief will be your strength. I never said it will be
easy. It sure won’t be. But it sure will make your life an awesome place to
live in.
Remember,
“When one door of happiness closes another opens but we look so long at the close door that we often do not see the one which has opened for us”
